TRANSIT/LAND USE STUDY SUMMARY
La Plata County is seeing increased demands for transportation services as the population grows. The County recognizes the need to look critically at the potential utilization of a variety of mobility options and of demand management tools to minimize the impacts on our existing infrastructure and optimize our existing and future transit services. The current automobile oriented development patterns within La Plata County limit mobility options even for citizens willing to use our existing transit services. In addition, the lack of alternatives and propensity for development that exacerbates dependence on automobiles is neither desirable nor sustainable. We would like to examine our options for making the transition to a functional transit system as well as develop land use strategies that will lead us in that direction.
