Medical Marijuana Land Use Regulations to be Considered by Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners
La Plata County will move forward with its regulatory efforts for the medical marijuana industry by proposing Chapter 91 be adopted into the La Plata Land Use Code. La Plata County Weed Management Office in a New Location
The La Plata County Weed Management Office has moved to the La Plata County Courthouse located at 1060 E 2nd Avenue, Durango. Rod Cook, County Weed Manager, has his office in the Building Department, located in the northeast side of the Courthouse basement. The Weed Mapping Technicians have moved to the GIS office, located on the northwest side of the ground level in the Courthouse. Read more »
"On The Road" County Commissioner's Meeting
The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will continue a series of “On the Road” meetings and invites the public to join them to discuss issues of interest or concern regarding La Plata County. “We look forward to meeting with as many people as possible in an informal setting to hear what’s on people’s minds,” said Commissioner Bobby Lieb, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. Zoning Principles Presentation Video Available Online
Don Elliot, author of “A Better Way to Zone” made an informational presentation on zoning principles to the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday, February 2, 2012. The meeting was well attended by community members, County staff and planning commissioners.

Assessor’s Office to Send Requests for Information on the Agricultural Use of Properties
On January 1, 2012, Colorado House Bill 11-1146 became effective and clarifies the requirements for the agricultural classification of land that underlies residential improvements. The bill requires that the residential improvements on agricultural land be “integral” to the agricultural operation for the land underlying the residence in order for the property to be classified agricultural. La Plata County Board of County Commissioners Appoints New Chair
At their January 3, 2012 Special Business meeting the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners appointed Commissioner Robert A. (Bobby) Lieb, Jr. as Chair of the Board for 2012. Commissioner Wallace (Wally) White was named Vice-Chair. Commissioner Lieb replaces outgoing chair, Commissioner Kellie C. Hotter. Chair of the Board is a one-year rotating position.
