County Commissioners to Host Zoning Presentation
Durango, CO – Don Elliot, author of “A Better Way to Zone” will be making an informational presentation on zoning principles to the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 12:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room in the La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 E 2nd Avenue, Durango.

S&P Upgrades La Plata County’s Credit Rating to A+
Durango, CO – Standard & Poor's Ratings Services raised its underlying rating on La Plata County’s certificates of participation (COPs) from “A” to “A+” based on the county's good financial management and continued increases of surplus money into its general fund. The rating reflects the Standard & Poor’s (S&P) assessment of the County's annual appropriation of lease payments and general creditworthiness. Read more »

Open House for Proposed Road Improvements on County Road 234
Durango, CO - The La Plata County Public Works Department will host an open house to discuss proposed road improvements to County Road 234. These improvements will increase safety by widening the driving surface and paving the shoulders. The north end of the project starts approximately one-half mile north of the County Road 237 (Horse Gulch) intersection, and extends south to the intersection with County Road 225, a distance of one and one-half miles. County Commissioner Kellie Hotter Elected as President-Elect for the Colorado Counties, Inc. Board of Directors
Durango, CO – La Plata County Commissioner Kellie C. Hotter has been elected President-Elect for the Board of Directors of Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI). Assessor’s Office to Send Requests for Information on the Agricultural Use of Properties
Durango, CO – As a result of newly enacted legislation, beginning on January 11, 2012, the La Plata County Assessor’s Office will be sending out requests for information to local landowners whose property is currently classified as agricultural for taxation purposes.
