Christmas Tree Recycling Drop-Off Locations in La Plata County for 2010

    Durango, CO – When the excitement of the holidays is over and it’s time to take down the Christmas decorations, La Plata County residents will have several opportunities to recycle their fresh-cut Christmas tree.  Trees collected at the below collection sites will be mulched and made available to residents:

     City of Durango:
     * Santa Rita Park – in the gravel area next to the playground
     * Monday, January 3 through Saturday, January 22, 2011

     Town of Bayfield, CO:
     * Curbside pickup on Thursday, December 30, 2010 and Thursday, January 6, 2011
     * Place Christmas tree next to curbside trash container before 7:00 a.m.

     Town of Ignacio, CO:
     * In designated area on the south side of Becker Street, directly south of the high school

     * Bayfield Convenience Center midway between Durango and Bayfield on C.R. 223

   To prepare your tree for recycling, please remove all decorations including tinsels, bows, nails etc.  Only natural Christmas trees, wreaths and boughs will be accepted.  Do not deposit other trash at the drop-off site.  Trees commingled with other trash will render them unusable for making wood mulch.  For additional information, please contact La Plata County at (970) 382-6200.
