The Living With Wildlife Advisory Committee (LWAB) is your resource for questions or conflict with wildlife in La Plata County. You have found the right division of the La Plata County offices if you can answer yes to the types of questions below.

In most situations, people and wildlife can coexist. Frequently, there are simple steps and non-evasive methods to deter wildlife from damaging your property.

The Living With Wildlife Advisory Board is made up of qualified volunteers that serve in an advisory role to the La Plata County Commissioners on issues involving wildlife damage in La Plata County. The goal of the LWAB is to reduce conflict between wildlife and residents of La Plata County.
The duties of the LWAB are to:
- Develop and implement programs to reduce animal conflict within La Plata County
- Develop and coordinate educational programs to assist community members in living with wildlife on their property safely and appropriately
LWAB works proactively with land-owners and local and state authorities to:
- Help La Plata county residents find solutions to conflicts with wildlife
- Host lectures
- Facilitate workshops
- Distribute printed information
- Assist property owners with wildlife problems
- Provide information via the La Plata County’s website
LWAB volunteers are available to help you evaluate your situation and provide sound information.

Upcoming Event
Join the La Plata County Living with Wildlife Advisory Board for their Summer Speaker Series with a special focus on "road ecology". We will be showing an hour-long documentary entitled "Division Street" that presents a new generation of ecologists, engineers, city and county planners, and everyday citizens who are making way for wildlife by transforming the future of the American road. After the film, Dr. Marcel Huijser of the Western Transportation Institute and the Colorado Department of Transportation will be presenting their work on the US 160 animal detection system and will take questions.
