Members of this genusare poisonous, affecting cattle, sheep and horses. Twogrooved milkvetchcontains both selenium and swainsonine,the alkaloid responsible forlocoism. As little as 2 lbs. can cause acute poisoning in mature cowswithin a few hours after being eaten. Poisoning symptoms are respiratoryproblems and paralysis of the hind legs.
