Online documents - Are your recorded documents online?
Yes.
La Plata county has records on-line visit https://papervision.laplata.co.us to view our recorded documents. Please note: you will be unable to print any documents unless you have an account with us. To obtain copies you must be on-site or send in a request along with payment. If you are interested in setting up an account please contact our office at 970-382-6281 or 970-382-6283.
How are my registration/renewal fees calculated?
The notice you receive when it is time to renew your license lists information about your vehicle, the Taxable Value (TX VAL), the License Fee (LIC.FEE) and the Specific Ownership Tax (OWN.TX)
Taxable Value: This is calculated using a percentage of the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and remains constant throughout the life of the vehicle. The taxable value of passenger cars is 85% of the MSRP; the taxable value of a truck is 75% of the MSRP. Read more »
Foreclosure Properties - Where do I get a list of foreclosure properties?
Although foreclosure documents are recorded with us in this office we do not have a "list" of such properties. The Public Trustee's office has a web site that you can view current foreclosure properties: http://ptforeclosures.laplata.co.us/index.aspx. Concealed Weapons Permit: How do I apply?
How do I go about getting a Concealed Weapon permit (CCW)?
In order to obtain a concealed weapons permit, you must first obtain and complete the proper application from the La Plata County Sheriff's Office. Upon application, you must present a valid picture ID, such as a driver's license, military ID, or passport, proof of training, give a fingerprint sample, and include 2 processing fees. Read more »

Marriage licenses are available from the La Plata County Clerk and Recorder’s office located in Bodo at 98 Everett Street Ste C Durango, Monday through Friday 8:00am- 4:30pm.

Zoning - How is my property zoned?
La Plata County uses a permit, or performance zoning, system to determine suitability of land uses. The system generally allows one dwelling unit per lot without a land use permit and requires compatibility review for any additional development.
The closest thing to “traditional” zoning in the unincorporated areas of La Plata County is in the Animas Valley, from the North edge of Durango up to the Baker’s Bridge area. Land Use Permits are still required. Read more »
Animal Control - Who should I call to report a dog at large?
To report a dog at large please call animal control provided by the La Plata County Humane Society's central dispatch at (970) 385-2900.
Late fee - Is there a late fee if I do not register my vehicle?
Yes.
- Purchase - Vehicles must be registered within 60 days from the date of purchase to avoid late fee.
- Renewal - There is a one month grace period, after the month grace there is a late fee.
- Late fees - $25 for each month or portion of a month that a vehicle is not registered after the one month grace period, not to exceed $100, will be charged.
