Wildlife - What do I need to know about La Plata County wildlife?
Wildlife is WILD and should never be approached or disturbed on purpose. The Colorado Department of Wildlife, or DOW, has some great information on animal encounters. Most wildlife will avoid people but we live in their natural habitat and will sometimes have encounters. Deer, elk, skunks and raccoons are common throughout the region and can be found crossing roads anywhere.
