La Plata County Historic Preservation

		

On November 15, 2004, the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 2004-33, creating the La Plata County Historic Register.  Resolution 2010-09 increased the number of members on the Historic Preservation Review Commission from three to five members.  This five member commission has been appointed to further Historic Preservation in the county and to advise the elected officials.

Making Nominations:

An application for nominating a property to the County Historic Register can be downloaded or you can obtain a paper copy from the Planning Department office located in the County Courthouse at 1060 E. 2nd Avenue in Durango. Maintaining the Register:

The County Planning Department and the County Clerk and Recorder maintain the La Plata County Historic Register. Sites are accepted to the Register by recommendation from the Historic Preservation Review Commission, to the Board of County Commissioners and are adopted by Resolution.
