4-H

		

4-H is open to urban and rural youth ages 8 to 19. More than 350 La Plata County Youth participate in local club, county, state and national activities. Members acquire life skills by working with individual projects and in club activities.

Enrollment for 4-H activities is closed for the 2011-2012 4-H year.

If you are interested in joining, enrollment will open October 1st, 2012 for the 2013 4-H year.

La Plata County 4-H Information:

Tag-in for Market Sheep, Swine and Goat

Due to the original date being on a holiday weekend, it was decided to change the tag-in date for the Ignacio and Hesperus locations. (Durango option will stay the same).

Tag – In Ignacio and Hesperus

Saturday, May 19th – 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. If you are not nominating animals for State Fair and it’s more convenient to tag – in at Ignacio or Hesperus, you’re welcome to do so.  The Ignacio site will be at the Pine River Valley Baptist Church and the Hesperus location will be held at the Old Fort Lewis Research Station.

Tag-In Durango

Wednesday, May 23rd – 3:30-6:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend this tag-in. **If you are planning on going to State Fair, you must attend the Tag-in at the Fairgrounds in Durango on Wednesday, May 23rd 3:30-6:30pm. **

Meat Quality Assurance

Don’t forget about the Meat Quality Assurance on Wednesday, May 30th 6:30pm. You Must attend the class or do it online if you are doing a market livestock project and:

  • It’s your first year in the project

OR

  • You are 14 years old as of December 31st, 2011

OR

  • You are doing Market Swine and plan on this animal going to State Fair, all market swine members are required to take PQA every year they do the project and want to go on to State Fair.

New Family Orientation Part II     

Thursday May 31st. 6:30pm at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.                                                                    All 4-H members are welcome to attend. We will be covering the summer activities we have scheduled and what to expect at Fair.

Annual Bike-A-Thon and Swim at Trimble Hot Springs, Sunday, June 3rd, 9:00am.

The ride itself is about 10 miles. its a fun, healthy, non-competitive activity for the whole family. After finishing the ride to Trimble Hot Springs, you'll have plenty of time for a pizza lunch and a swim in the hot springs - all included in your registration fee of $15.00 per person.

Natural Resource Camp, July 11th -13th

The camp is open to Archuleta, Montezuma and La Plata County 4-Hers who will be entering the 3rd through 8th grades this coming school year. Older teens serve as camp counselors.

First Child is charged $40.00 while each additional child in the family is just $25.00 - unless a camp scholarship was earned at the Bike-a-Thon.

Colorado State 4-H June Conference.June 18-22, 2012 on the CSU Campus.

We will be leaving on the 18th in the morning and returning late on the 22nd. This conference is available for senior 4-H members. The cost for attending the conference is $75.00, this includes 1 contest. If the member wants to participate additional contests, it costs $20.00 per contest.

Registration will open on May 3rd. Please fill out the registration form and turn it into the Extension Office by May 30th at 5:00pm.
