Criminal Investigations

The Mission of the La Plata County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit:

To provide both reactive and proactive investigative functions for the  discovery, control and prosecution of criminal cases involving all manner of criminal acts.

The Criminal Investigations Unit is comprised of a Captain, six (6) Investigators and an Evidence Technician. They are responsible for the investigation of crimes against persons and property. They carry a caseload and manage criminal cases received from both the Patrol Division and those assigned by the Investigations Captain. They respond to calls for assistance by patrol, jail and the administration for various investigative needs involving anything from criminal matters to internal matters. They write arrest and search warrants, and prepare criminal cases for prosecution. They are available to assist other fire and law enforcement agencies with the investigation of criminal activity.
