Public Works Environmental
La Plata County Public Works Department hired an environmental specialist in 2008. This senior-level technical and professional position was created to assist La Plata County for implementation of federal and state laws and regulations related to the protection, conservation and/or reclamation, and environmental health issues. The environmental specialist works with all county departments as needed in areas including air quality, water quality, land reclamation, solid and hazardous waste management, environmental public health and soil and water conservation. The Environmental Specialist has the following certifications and training: 40-Hour HAZWOPER, 24-Hour MSHA, Confined Space Entry, Stormwater Management & Erosion Control, NEPA Process & NEPA Cumulative Effects Analysis, UST Class A & B, 4-Hour Radiation Safety Awareness, and Motor Grader Operator.
