Description:
Growing Partners is excited to present the fourth annual Home Grown Apple Days Festival, held at Buckley Park in Durango on Sunday, October 16th. The festival will start at 11:00am and go through 4:00pm.
This free to the public family event showcases and celebrates the apple, and provides opportunities for residents and tourists alike to learn what they can do to promote and practice food security and sustainability. Over the past two years, the Apple Days Festival has become a highlight of the fall season, and is a fantastic event for all ages and members of the family.
Festival events include:
- Apple pressing – help us, and the Bootleggers Society, press apples so they can brew it into our very own, “Insider Ale” which is then sold to raise money for this year’s festival
- Kid events – we will have a cardboard castle, pumpkin painting, games, and face painting
- Live music – live music from local bands
- Edible trees and shrubs to buy and plant
- Local food from Linda's Local Food Cafe, Zia Taqueria, Fired-Up Pizza, Turtle Lake Refuge
- Homemade pies benefiting La Plata County 4-H
- A Beer Garden highlighting brews from our local breweries
- Educational tents and workshops, including tastings from many of the area’s local apple trees
- Pie eating contest
- Apple tasting - taste apples from the CSU Southwest Research Center's Fruit Tree Project in Yellow Jacket
