City, county host meeting on proposed fire district impact fee
Posted on 07/20/2017

The Durango City Council and La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will jointly host a public meeting regarding the Durango Fire Protection District’s (DFPD) proposal to enact fire impact fees on new development within the fire district.

Please join the Durango City Council and La Plata County Board of County Commissioners from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday July 25, in the Smith Council Chambers at Durango City Hall located at 949 E. 2nd Avenue.  Fire Chief Hal Doughty will provide a brief overview of the proposal starting at 4 p.m., with a public comment period to follow until 5:30 p.m.

This meeting is an opportunity for community members to learn about the proposal and to provide input to elected officials and DFPD board members and staff. State law requires that the governing bodies of the jurisdictions within the fire district approve impact fees before they can be enacted.

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will consider the proposed impact fees at a later meeting. In preparation for this discussion, county staff has prepared several documents including a staff report, a draft intergovernmental agreement for administering the impact fees, and a draft resolution adopting the fees. These documents are available here.

A summary of the impact fee proposal and associated information is available at the Durango Fire Protection District website
