Gov. John Hickenlooper on Monday appointed La Plata County Commissioner Julie Westendorff to serve on the State Board of Human Services, for a two-year term expiring March 1, 2019.
The nine-member board adopted policies, rules and regulations relevant to the administration of the state Department of Human Services. The board adopts rules and regulations concerning foster care and adoption procedures, mental health programs, alcohol and drug abuse programs, senior services, veterans’ services and programs that serve individuals with developmental disabilities. The board also adjusts the minimum award for old age pensions to respond to changes in the cost of living.
Westendorff will attend meetings of the State Board of Human Services the first Thursday and Friday of each month. The state of Colorado will pay for her travel expenses.
“I am looking forward to this opportunity to advocate for La Plata County residents and Department of Human Services interests at the state level,” Westendorff said.
Commissioner Westendorff will change her monthly office hours at the Pine River Library to the third Thursday of the month beginning in February.
