Yard Waste at the Bayfield Transfer Station


Mulch is always free to self load at the Bayfield Transfer Station, located at 4496 CR 223 Yard waste is open. 

La Plata County offers residents a yard waste collection site located at the Bayfield Convenience Center at 4496 CR 223 that provides local residents a free option for the disposal of their dry, brown yard waste such as tree trimmings, slash, and tree trunks.  Please do not bring grass clippings or sagebrush.

The accumulated yard waste is mulched and made available to County residents, free of charge.  (No loading services are available; residents must load their own mulch.)

The Bayfield Convenience Center is open as follows:

Summer Hours:  Daylight Savings Time                Winter Hours:  Mountain Standard Time

Monday   – 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.                             Monday   – 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday   – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.                          Tuesday   – 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Thursday – 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.                             Thursday – 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Saturday – 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.                             Saturday – 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Consider combining trips by bringing your recyclables and dry, brown yard waste to drop off when you get your mulch.

La Plata County encourages local residents to take advantage of the free yard waste program, free self-loading of wood mulch and the recycling station as ways that each of us can help to reduce, reuse and recycle.  Yard waste closes during the winter.
