Become a 4-H Volunteer

Who can volunteer?

Anyone over 18 who cares about young people. You don't need to be a parent or a 4-H alum or an expert! You will need to complete a background check and have some basic training. 

Step A: How do you want to volunteer?

Your first step will deciding what kind of volunteer work you would like to do with 4-H. If you are just interested in being a one-time volunteer for events or are interested in being a judge, please contact Angela at the La Plata County Extension office - or 970-382-6465.

If you are interested in teaching classes or taking on a leadership role and working one-on-one with the youth, please complete the next steps below.

STEP B: Application

All of our enrollment is completed online.
Please download the instructions before you began and be sure you have 3 References with name, phone number and email address. 

STEP C: Background check

    All of our background checks are completed through a 3rd party, HireRight.
    Once we receive your application, we will contact your references. After we receive your references, we will submit a request for a background check to be completed for you. HireRight will send you a link to their secure website where they will ask you for your social security number, drivers license information and if you have a criminal history.

        Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing of screening materials. We will notify you when your screening is complete.

        You must be approved BEFORE beginning to serve as a volunteer.
